Offset printing Magnetic Ink
Magnetic ink contents magnetic materials that can be checked and read out by magnetic detor.
Manily used for logo printing. Magnetic ink is mainly used for logo, passwords, patten number printing.
It have magnetic materials which can be checked out and read out by information dector. It have black and brown two kinds of colors.
The magnetic ink uses magnetizable pigments, such as iron oxide black (Fe3O4), iron oxide brown (Fe2O3), and most of these particles are needle-like crystals smaller than 1 μm. After magnetic field treatment, it is easy to achieve magnetic alignment and obtain higher residual magnetism. The ink made after adding to the ink shows magnetism and becomes a magnetic ink. It is widely used in the classification, retrieval and identification of bank notes and postal services. It can be made into magnetic lead printing ink, magnetic offset printing ink and other varieties.
The ink made of magnetizable materials is selected, and the character code is printed on a certain substrate, and then it can be read by an electronic reading device, such as new bank checks, credit cards, etc.
Introduction
Magnetic ink composition
The basic composition of magnetic ink is the same as that of general ink, that is, it is composed of pigments, binders, fillers and additional materials. However, the pigments used in magnetic inks are not pigments, but ferromagnetic materials.
Pigments for magnetic inks
The magnetic ink has magnetism because the magnetic pigment in the ink can retain the magnetism after being magnetized. As one of the most important components of magnetic ink, it determines the final printing effect of the ink. The main component of magnetic ink is magnetic pigment, the best magnetic pigments are iron oxide black (Fe3O4) and iron oxide brown (Fe2O3). Most of these pigments are needle-like crystals smaller than 1 μm. Such particle size and shape make it easy to arrange them evenly in a magnetic field, thereby obtaining relatively high residual magnetism.
Binder for magnetic ink
The fluidity, adhesion, dryness and printability of the ink mainly depend on the binder. The binder is the fluid component of the ink, and the binder of the magnetic ink is also the basis for the quality of the ink. The binder of magnetic ink is similar to the binder of general ink. Vegetable oil, animal oil and mineral oil can be selected, but synthetic resin is more commonly used as its binder. Representative synthetic resins are alkyd resin, polyurethane, epoxy resin, acrylamide, polyvinyl acetate, vinyl chloride-acetic acid copolymer, polyvinyl butyral, polyvinyl ether, nitrocellulose , Polyurethane resin, etc. Generally, long oil (65%) alkyd resins are used in general paste inks. This type of resin has good color retention, good brightness and excellent anvil adhesion in iron printing inks. In addition, due to its relatively good solubility, it is also widely used in screen printing inks.
Filler for magnetic ink
In magnetic inks, the role of fillers is mainly to adjust the properties of the ink, such as thinness and fluidity. In addition, the amount of pigments can be reduced, which can reduce the cost of ink. According to the different requirements of the characteristics of the product, the environmental charge can be an additional part of the pigment or binder, or as an additional part of the finished ink.
Additives for magnetic ink
There are many types of additives in magnetic inks. According to their different functions, they can be divided into stabilizers, desiccants, plasticizers, coupling agents, lubricants, and solvents. The role of the stabilizer is to prevent the aging and deterioration of the binder. Commonly used are metal organic acid salts such as barium stearate.
The function of the coupling agent is to better disperse the magnetic pigment in the binder and increase the adhesion strength at the same time. Commonly used coupling agents are silanes and ferrites. The literature points out that the bonded magnet using silane coupling agent can obtain higher mechanical properties, while the bonded magnet using titanate coupling agent can obtain higher magnetic properties. When the amount of ferrite coupling agent is 1% (mass fraction), and xylene is used as the solvent, the magnet can obtain good overall performance.
Lubricants have many functions: not only can improve the dispersion of magnetic powder, the plasticity of the magnetic layer and prevent the brittleness caused by aging, but also can play a lubricating effect around the binder, thereby overcoming the agglomeration of magnetic powder.
The solvent can dissolve the binder used, so that the magnetic paddle is advection. When selecting, pay attention to the proper boiling point, neither the boiling point is too low, resulting in too fast evaporation loss, and the viscosity of the magnetic slurry is difficult to maintain constant; nor is the boiling point too high, which makes the magnetic layer difficult to dry. Commonly used magnetic ink solvents are: methyl ethyl ketone, acetone, cycloethyl ketone, toluene, xylene, diacetone alcohol isopropanol, butanol and so on.
The rheological properties of magnetic inks are basically similar to those of general inks, but the ink properties are slightly shorter and the fluidity is relatively poor. The conjunctival fastness of the printed product shall be subject to the friction in the automatic processing device. The reason why the magnetic ink is magnetic is that the pigments used in the ink formulation have the ability to retain magnetic properties after being treated with a magnetic field. Of course, the ink itself is not magnetic before magnetization. There are many factors that affect magnetic properties, such as the magnetic properties of the pigment, the content of the magnetic pigment in the ink, the thickness of the ink film after printing, and so on.
Magnetic ink characteristics
The disadvantage of these pigments is that the oil absorption is relatively large, and the transfer performance is not very satisfactory, so sometimes some granular or cubic iron oxides are used to improve their printing performance. Since these iron oxides have poor residual magnetism, the amount should not be too much. Another advantage is that it can be used as a pigment in the formulation (due to the small oil absorption), which can improve the transfer characteristics of the ink.
The binder is the fluid component of the ink. The fluidity, viscosity, dryness, printing performance, etc. of the ink are mainly determined by the binder. The binder of the magnetic ink is also the basis for the quality of the ink. The binder of magnetic ink is similar to the binder of general ink, vegetable oil, animal oil, mineral oil can be selected, but synthetic resin is more used as the binder of magnetic ink.
The filler in the magnetic ink can also reduce the amount of pigments, reduce the cost, and adjust the properties of the ink, such as thinness and fluidity, and also improve the flexibility of formula design. In addition, the additional material in the magnetic ink can be an additional part of the pigment, an additional part of the binder, or an additional part of the finished ink, depending on the characteristics and requirements of the product.
For different printing methods, the selected magnetic ink may be different, but no matter what the printing method, the characteristics of the magnetic pigments in the magnetic ink are basically the same. The main difference is the binder, which may be the proportion of the components in the ink formulation. s difference.
Research progress
The use of magnetic ink has a history of more than 40 years, and dozens of anti-counterfeiting magnetic inks have been developed at home and abroad. The advantages of these inks are the easy implementation of anti-counterfeiting technology, good concealment, and low cost. But as a kind of anti-counterfeiting ink, one of its more prominent features is its strong technical blockade, which makes it more difficult to successfully develop high-quality magnetic inks. At present, many domestic manufacturers produce magnetic inks, but they are not comparable to foreign products in terms of quality. Users who need high-performance and high-quality magnetic inks still have to import large quantities from the United States and Japan. In the research of anti-counterfeiting magnetic ink, a very urgent problem is how to break the foreign technology monopoly and develop high-performance and high-quality products. Please contact with Caroline for more details:+8618026391301.
